Monica O. Knight Travel Training
Monica comes to you. Private horse handling help at your horse’s own property, with your horse staying home and Monica traveling to the horse.
Available throughout San Luis Obispo County and surrounding areas.
Estimate your visit
Choose how many hours you want Monica at your horse’s property and how far you are from Arroyo Grande.
Not sure of your distance? Look up the driving miles in Google Maps. Travel is calculated separately based on your location, so this is an estimate and Monica confirms it with you.
The hourly rate is the same whether Monica is working directly with your horse, working with you and your horse together, assessing a situation, or providing guidance.
How an hour can be used
You decide what your horse needs. Monica meets you there.
Working with your horse
Monica works directly with your horse at your property.
Working with you and your horse
You and your horse work together with Monica, so you learn what the horse is learning.
Assessing a situation
Monica observes your horse and your circumstances, learns the history, and helps determine an appropriate path forward.
Guidance
Talk through a challenge, a plan, or what to do next with your horse.
What it’s for
Your horse doesn’t have to come to us to get real help.
Visits are built around the individual horse. Work may include:
- Approach, catching, and haltering
- Leading and groundwork
- Touch and body handling
- Picking up all four feet
- Preparation for veterinary and farrier handling
- Fear and defensive responses
- Equipment preparation
- Trailer preparation when appropriate
- Other individual goals
How Monica works
Training is based on observation of the individual horse, cause and effect, communication, safety, and the horse’s responses to the work. Goals and methods may evolve as more is learned about the horse.
The purpose is not simply to complete a checklist of behaviors.
The work is intended to develop increasingly useful, reliable skills with the horse while also helping the owner understand and continue those skills.
