Most programs teach riding. UMA teaches Horse Handling Science, also called World Horsemanship. This means students learn how horses think and respond, how to communicate with them on the ground and in the saddle, and how to become a capable horseman, not just a rider. Equipment may be English or Western depending on the horse and the work. Does this sound like what you are looking for?

UMA students do more than ride. They groom, lead, tack, do groundwork, observe, care for horses, and complete learning material between sessions. Riding is part of the program, not the whole program. Does this sound like the kind of learning you want?
